Mumbai, Nov 5 (IBNS): Several filmmakers, including Kundan Shah, on Thursday returned their National Awards.

Shah is known for making the iconic movie 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron'.

Protesting against rising intolerance and coming out in support of the students of Pune's Film and Television Institute of India (FTII)  , ten filmmakers, including Dibakar Banerjee and  Anant Patwardhan, recently decided to return the national awards.

Criticising the move, filmmaker and social activist Ashoke Pandit tweeted: "My creative gurus #KundanShah & #SaeedMirza stand exposed today.Hd thought they were different.Bt they proved me wrong.Sad.#AwardsWapsigang."

"Y didn't #KundanShah & #SaeedMirza return their awards after d #RadhabaiChawl incident where 5 women & a child were burnt alive? #AwardWapsi," he said.

"They made films & TV serials on the down trodden & made properties worth crores of rupees in a place like #Goa.#SaeedMirza AwardsWapsigang," he posted.
