Indigo planes with faulty engines may face catastrophic situation, DGCA warns

New Delhi/IBNS: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has warned IndiGo Airlines that its Airbus A-320 NEO airliners have possibilities of facing a catastrophic situation if they continue to operate with unmodified engines, media reports said on Monday.

This comes after the DGCA received a note from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding the same.

According to reports, the DGCA stated that IndiGo must urgently modify the critical third stage of the Low-Pressure Turbine on all the engines of A-320 NEOs currently operational.

"These conditions, if not addressed, could result in uncontained release of the LPT 3rd stage blades, failure of one or more engines, loss of thrust control, and loss of aircraft,'' the DGCA was quoted as saying in media.

This means that the potentially faulty engine blades operated by IndiGo on its A-320 NEO jets posses the threat of breaking free during a flight which might result in an engine failure and a loss of power.

The situation in all probability could end in a fatal accident.
