Dibrugarh, Dec 23 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate India's longest road-and-railway bridge 17km from here on Christmas Day, reports said. The bridge took 21 years to build.

The 4.94 km Bogibeel bridge over the Brahmaputra will cut travel time between Itanagar and Dibrugarh by 19 hours, says Northwest Frontier Railway.

The bridge with two broad gauge lines and a three-lane road over it, will also help security forces manning India's border with China.

"Bridging the Brahmaputra is in itself is challenging. It is a high rainfall area and falls in the seismic zone. This is a bridge which is unique in many ways. It is the longest in the country," NDTV quoted Pranav Jyoti Sarma, CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railways, as saying.

Modi will also will also flag off the Tinsukia-Naharlagun Intercity Express, a 14-coach car that will run five days a week.

"This will prove to be a divine blessing for Dibrugarh. This will propel Dibrugarh as the next biggest business hub after Gwuahati" Hafizur Rehman, NDTV quoted a local in Dibrugarh as saying said.
