Indian politicians pay homage to Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary

New Delhi, May 27 (IBNS): Indian politicians, including PM Narendra Modi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, ex-Vice President Hamid Ansari and former PM Manmohan Singh, were among the leaders who joined to pay tributes to first Indian PM of free India Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary.

Monday marked the 55th death anniversary of the leader.

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari and Congress President Rahul Gandhi  visited Nehru's  Shanti Van memorial and paid their homage to the leader.

PM Narendra Modi remembered Nehru and tweeted: "Tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Ji on his death anniversary. We remember his contributions to our nation."

Congress president Rahul Gandhi urged the nation to remember his contributions in building the nation.

"Many democratic nations as young as India, soon degenerated into dictatorships. On his death anniversary, let us remember Jawaharlal Nehru Ji’s contribution in building strong, independent, modern institutions, that have helped democracy survive in India for over 70 years ," Gandhi tweeted.
