Indian-origin US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard gifts Modi Bhagvad Gita

New York, Sept 29 (IBNS): Indian-origin US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard who is the representative of Hawaii, has gifted Modi a copy of Bhagvad Gita, which she used during her swearing-in ceremony to the US House of Representatives.

According to the information released by Ministry of External Affairs, Gabbard, who is the first Hindu Congresswoman in the US, met Modi after he delivered a speech at Madison Square on Sunday.

The two leaders interacted for about 30 minutes.

During the meeting, they discussed on a wide range of affairs, mostly related to Gabbard’s own interest in India.

Gabbard has said to Modi that she has a great interest in Vedic scriptures and Yoga.

In a touching gesture, Gabbard presented Prime Minister a Bhagvad Gita which she said she had used during the swearing in ceremony to the US House of Representatives.

She herself is a practitioner of Yoga; she is extremely keen on understanding the practice of Yoga in India.

In this context, she discussed about Prime Minister’s proposal in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) regarding Yoga.

She said that as a practitioner of Yoga, she was very interested in that proposal and that she would do her best to try and see in what way she can support this proposal of the Prime Minister.

Apart from that, Gabbard asserted that she is great supporter of India and she also has an interest about the country.

She also expressed her desire to visit India. She hasn’t visited India ever.

Hearing that, Prime Minister has invited her to come to India at a suitable time.

She also discussed her approach towards issues of defence related matters as well as international cooperation in terms of working against common threats that are posed through terror.

It has been learnt that she is on some of the committees related to US defence.

She has served twice in Middle East on tour of duty with the US forces.

She presented Modi her perceptions of how the situation is there and what she sees are issues that are confronting the US and her personal assessment.

She also voiced her support on counter-terrorism and international cooperation on counter-terrorism and stated that India and US should work together on these issues.
