Indian govt condemns vandalism at Canada's Bhagvad Gita park, calls it 'hate crime'

| @indiablooms | Oct 03, 2022, at 02:06 pm

Ottawa: India has condemned the vandalization of a park sign in Canada named after the holy Bhagvad Gita.

The Indian High Commission demanded a probe into the matter and described the incident as a 'hate crime'.

"We condemn the hate crime at the Shri Bhagvad Gita Park in Brampton. We urge Canadian authorities & @PeelPolice to investigate and take prompt action on the perpetrators @MEAIndia @cgivancouver @IndiainToronto," the Indian High Commission in Ottawa tweeted.

The park was previously known as Troyers Park.

The park was later renamed as Shri Bhagavad Gita Park.

It was unveiled on Sept 28.

India had last month issued an advisory to Indian students in Canada to exercise due caution and remain vigilant in view of the increasing incidences of hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities in the country.
