Indian Army faces challenge to bring martyr's body back from Manipur jungles
Imphal, Apr 14 (IBNS): With the major of the Indian army being killed in an encounter with militants in Manipur on Wednesday, the force is now fighting the bad weather to airlift the body of Amit Deswal out of the thick jungles in state's Tamenglong district, reports said.
Major Amit Deswal of 21 Para Special Forces was killed during a gun battle with Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) in the Nungba area Tamenglong district.
Army officials said one militant was also killed in the encounter.
The security forces have called off the combing operation in Tamenglong district and are trying to bring back the officer’s body from the remote area.
Reports quoted army officials as saying that the area is is densely forested and they have not been able to bring the body of major Amit Deswal, who hailed from Haryana.
