India-Vietnam engage in foreign office consultations and strategic dialogue

New Delhi, Aug 3 (IBNS): During the Eighth Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) and the Fifth Strategic Dialogue between India and Vietnam on Tuesday, the Vietnamese side reaffirmed its support for India’s candidature for a Permanent seat in an expanded United Nations Security Council, according to India's Ministry of External Affairs.

At the meeting held in New Delhi, the Indian side was led by Preeti Saran, Secretary (East) and the Vietnamese side by Vũ Hồng Nam,Vice Foreign Minister of Vietnam.

At the FOC, the two sides held deliberations on the entire gamut of bilateral relations, including the forthcoming high level visits, celebration of 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year, cooperation in political and security related matters, trade and investment, cooperation in health, energy and agriculture sector, connectivity, lines of credit and other capacity building projects in Vietnam and increasing people-to-people ties, reported the Ministry of External Affairs.

During the Strategic Dialogue, both sides exchanged views on issues of mutual concern at regional and multilateral level, including cooperation at UN and International Organisations.

Both sides also discussed recent developments in the maritime domain and the need for peaceful resolution of all disputes in accordance with accepted principles of international law as reflected notably in the United Nations' Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982.
