Ahmedabad/IBNS: Leading the nation in welcoming US President Donald Trump in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India and US share closer relationship today.

"India-US relations are no longer just another partnership," Modi said in his address in Motera Stadium here with Donald Trump sharing the dais with him.

"It is a far greater and closer relationship," he said during the Namaste Trump event.

"India and US relationship will share a new chapter of progress and prosperity with the visit of Trump of India," he said.

Referring to his Howdy Modi event in the US, Trump said: "Five months ago, I had started my American trip from HowdyModi."

"Today, my friend POTUS Trump is starting his trip from #NamasteTrump in Ahmedabad," he said.

Trump arrived in India earlier in the day.

Modi visited the Ahmedabad airport personally to welcome him to the country.

Ahead of his Motera Stadium event, Trump participated in a 22-km roadshow and also briefly visited the Sabarmati Ashram.
This is Trump's first visit to India since becoming the President of US.

He will also visit Agra and New Delhi during his two-day visit.
