President Donald Trump on Tuesday said India and the US will resume negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between the two nations.

In his Truth Social post, Trump said: "I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations."

He said: "I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, Prime Minister Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries!"

Narendra Modi responds

Indian PM Narendra Modi responded to his social media post and described the two nations as 'close friends and natural partners'.

In his X post, Modi wrote: " I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership."

"Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump," he said.

He said: "We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people."

Trump posted the remark days after his administration imposed a 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods.

It included an additional 25 percent penalty on purchases of Russian oil.

The relationship between the two democracies had deteriorated over the past few months following tariff imposition.
