India successfullt flight-tests supersonic cruise missile BrahMos

| @indiablooms | Mar 22, 2018, at 06:43 pm

New Delhi, Mar 22 (IBNS) : India on Thursday successfully flight tested the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, a precision strike weapon, from Rajasthan's Pokhran test range.

"Formidable Supersonic Cruise Missile #BrahMos was successfully flight tested at 8:42 AM today at Pokhran test range, Rajasthan. The precision strike weapon with Indian-made seeker flew in its designated trajectory and hit the target with pin-point accuracy," the defence ministry tweeted.

Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation for the successful fight test and said it will be a further boost for the country's security.  "Smt @nsitharaman congratulates @DRDO_India , the Armed Forces and Defence Industry for the successful flight test of the Supersonic Cruise Missile #BrahMos. The successful test will further bolster our national security," another tweet said.

The missile that flies almost three times the speed of sound is the result of an Indo-Russian venture and its range can be extended up to 400 km.

It is being called the world's fastest supersonic cruise missile..

According to reports, work is underway to integrate the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile on 40 Sukhoi combat aircraft.

The BrahMos has been inducted into the Navy and Army from 2006 onwards, but this version is more versatile because unlike warships, which are slow-movers, a fast-moving Sukhoi-30 fighter can travel at least 1,500 km towards a target before the missile itself is fired.
