India sends 19 tonnes of humanitarian and disaster relief materials to PNG following devastating landslide

The Indian government has sent 19 tonnes of humanitarian and disaster relief (HADR) materials to Papua New Guinea's Enga province following the recent landslide in the region.

"In the wake of devastating landslide in Enga province of Papua New Guinea, had announced immediate assistance of USD 1 million to our close FIPIC partner," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X.

"Pursuant to the announcement, a flight carrying approx 19 tons of HADR supplies departed for today," he said.

A massive landslide in Enga province left 2,000 people buried.

The total affected population, including those in need of possible evacuation and relocation, has been estimated at 7,849 people, or 1,427 households, with most under the age of 16.

A total of 150 structures are estimated to have been buried, read the UN website.
