India, China to resume direct flights from late October as ties improve after Galwan clashes

“Since earlier this year, as part of the Government's approach towards gradual normalisation of relations between India and China, the civil aviation authorities of the two countries have been engaged in technical-level discussions on resuming direct air services between the two countries and on a revised Air Services Agreement,” the MEA said.

Air services between the two countries had first been halted after the Doklam standoff and were further disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the ministry, the discussions have now led to an agreement to resume direct flights connecting designated points in both countries by late October 2025, in line with the winter season schedule.

Operations will depend on the commercial choices of airlines and the fulfilment of technical requirements.

Officials said the arrangement will enhance people-to-people contact and support the gradual normalisation of bilateral exchanges.

The first announcement regarding the resumption of flights was made last month following Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to New Delhi.

The development comes as both sides work to stabilise ties.

Since late 2024, India and China have undertaken disengagement at Depsang and Demchok along the Line of Actual Control, along with high-level diplomatic and military dialogues, Track-II interactions, and easing of select trade restrictions.
