Income Tax officials raid properties of Kamal Nath's aides

New Delhi, Apr 7 (IBNS): The Income Tax department on Sunday conducted raids in the properties of  Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath's former private secretary Praveen Kakkar in Indore and former advisor Rajendra Kumar Miglani in Delhi in connection with an alleged hawala (illegal transaction) case, media reports said.

About Rs. 9 crores have been found during the raid of the properties of the two officers, NDTV citing sources reported.

The IT officials have raided a total of six places including their residences in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.

Both the officers had already resigned from their posts soon after the model code of conduct for the upcoming election came into force last month.

"A team of over 15 income tax officers from Delhi reached the home of Mr Kakkar in Indore's posh Vijay Nagar at 3 am and started searching the premises, sources said. They also raided a showroom at the same area and some other properties," reported NDTV.

The IT officials stated that the two officers allegedly made huge cash transactions via hawala route during the election time.

Kamal Nath is campaigning for the Congress in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara.

The raids on Kamal Nath's aides come just a week after income tax officials raided the premises owned by people linked to the Congress-Janata Dal-Secular coalition in Karnataka.

The oppositions have alleged that the Narendra Modi government is using the Income Tax department to discourage their leaders from putting up a strong fight in the election.
