Guwahati, Sept 22 (IBNS): Assam Excise Department and other investigation agencies of Assam police seized huge quantity of illicit liquor worth several crore of rupees, which is flooding to the state from neighbouring states.

On Friday, the excise officials raided at Boko area in Kamrup district and seized around 200 cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) meant for sale in Arunachal Pradesh.

The excise team led by Kamrup (Metro) Superintendent of Excise Debajit Nath also arrested two persons identified Jagat Rabha and Gopal Das in connection with the illegal activities.

PRO of Assam excise department Sailendra Pandey said that several duplicate labels were also seized during the operation.

Pandey said that, excise teams of Kamrup (Metro) district also seized 25 cases of IMFL and beer, 80 litres of country-made liquor during the raids were carried out at Paltan Bazar, Uzanbazar and Nalapara in Guwahati on Thursday and six persons were detained in connection with it.

Among the seizure liquors, 18 cases were meant for sale in Meghalaya and it proved that inter-state illicit liquor rackets are thriving in some north-eastern states.

Pandey said that, following the directive by Assam excise minister Parimal Suklabaidya, the excise department has continued operation against the illicit liquor and it’s gang across the state and seized huge quantity of illicit liquor worth of crore of rupees from different parts of the state and arrested few persons

“The raids were carried out in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivsagar, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Barpeta, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Karimganj districts in recent times,” the excise department PRO said.

On the other hand, the sleuths of CID recently seized a truckload of beer at Numaligarh in Golaghat district and the seizure beer were meant for sale in Arunachal Pradesh, but it was being transported for sale in Nagaland.

The CID officials had found that, the challans were made in the name of mustard oil and showed that these were meant to be transported from Beltola area in Guwahati to Nagaland.

“By using these challans, the liquor mafia transported illicit liquor from one state to other state,” a top CID official said.

On the other hand the Bureau of Investigation of Economic Offences (BIEO) arrested liquor mafia Rajesh Jalan, who is presently lodged at Guwahati central jail in connection with Rs 40 crore tax evasion scam of BG bonded warehouse, after BIEO recently seized five trucks illicit liquor from a plot of land owned by Jalan.
