Illegal arms factory busted near Kolkata, 5 arrested

Kolkata, Jan 8 (IBNS): Police on Thursday night busted an illegal arms factory at Mullickpur Kajipara area near Baruipur in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district and booked at least four persons, reports said.

According to reports, police arrested four persons- Mehtab Alam, Md. Zamirul Hussain, Heera Khan and Palash Mondal- on Thursday evening and recovered two 9mm pistols, six 7mm pistols, seven mobile phones, sim cards and 1 lakh 82 thousand rupees cash from their possessions.

After interrogating them, police nabbed another suspect- Aftab Alam- and conducted raid in a house at Mullickpur area in South 24 Parganas district.

At least 19 pistols (including 7mm and 9mm), incomplete 8 more pistols and as many as 70 bullet-filled magazines were seized from the house.

"Out of the five arrested, three- Mehtab Alam, Md. Zamirul Hussain and Heera Khan- are the residents of Munger in Bihar. Hiring a house at Mullickpur Kajipara area, they were running an arms factory and selling firearms. We are searching for the owner of that house, where the factory were being run," one official of South 24 Parganas district police told IBNS.

However, all arrested were produced in a local court at Baruipur and sent to police custody for five days.
