ICG launches coastal security awareness campaign in Kolkata
The ICG was raised on February 1, 1978.
Lt Gen Raman Dhawan, GOC, HQ Bengal Area flagged off the campaign from Coast Guard Residential Area, Kolkata, in presence of Inspector General VSR Murthy, Commander, Coast Guard Region (North East) and other senior officials.
A team comprising of 20 personnel from Coast Guard, Marine police and fishing community travelling on 10 motorcycles will traverse through Haldia-Contai-Digha before returning to Kolkata covering a distance of approximately 450 Kms.
During the campaign the teams will visit fishing hamlets enroute undertaking community interaction programmes and medical check-up camps with the assistance of medical teams from Coast Guard and Calcutta Medical Research Institute, accompanying the team in an ambulance.
The campaign is also aimed at sensitizing the fishing community who remain at sea for long periods and integrating them into the coastal security mechanism as “Eyes and Ears’.
The campaign will terminate at Kolkata on January 29.
