'Hope BJP fulfills people's expectations': Arvind Kejriwal after BJP ends AAP rule in Delhi

New Delhi/IBNS: Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has accepted the "people's mandate" and hoped the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would meet people's expectations after his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was voted out of power in Delhi on Saturday.

The BJP returned to power in Delhi, which went to assembly elections on February 5, after 27 years when the national capital was ruled by Congress and later AAP.

Kejriwal, who himself lost his seat, said in his initial reaction to the result, "We humbly accept the people's mandate. I congratulate BJP for their victory. I hope they fulfill the expectations with which people voted in their favour."

"In our 10-year term, we worked in the sectors of education, health, water and electricity as well as tried to provide relief to people and improve the infrastructure," the AAP supremo said and added, "We will not only work as a constructive opposition but also employ us to the needs of common people. We haven't come to politics for power but to work for people."

As per the trends of the Delhi poll results, the BJP is leading in 47 seats paving way for its return to power after 27 years.

The AAP, which had won 62 out of 70 seats, is lagging behind with only 23.

Apart from Kejriwal, former Delhi Deputy CM and top AAP leader Manish Sisodia was defeated in Jangpura.

Delhi CM Atishi saved AAP's modesty winning from the important Kalkaji constituency by 900 votes on a day top guns failed.
