High-powered central team begins surveying Amphan-hit areas in West Bengal
Kolkata/UNI: A high-powered central team on Friday began surveying the impact and damages, especially in the two contiguous districts of South and North 24 Parganas, caused on the people and property by the super cyclone Amphan, in which at least 98 people were killed and left trails of destruction on May 20, official sources said.
The central team visit, a promise fulfilled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who already made aerial survey along with governor Jagdeep Dhankar and chief minister Mamata Banerjee on May 22 and announced Rs 1000 crore relief, happened a night after a seven-member central officials arrived here on Thursday.
The team headed by Union home department's joint secretary Anuj Sharma, divided into two groups moved to South 24 Parganas and North 24 Pargans for on the spot study in the damaged areas. They would also talk to the local people as well as the local administrative officials before meeting state chief secretary Rajiva Sinha at Nabanna on Saturday.
The central team, comprising officials from home department, agriculture, fisheries, expenditure ministry, hydor and energy department and roads.
Their initial itinerary is to visit Pathorpratima, Brajaballavpur, Ramganga, Bharatala, Dhamakhali, Sandeshkhali, Najat and other areas.
The team would use both choppers, vehicles and boats to visit the damaged areas of south and north 24 Parganas.
