Pune/IBNS: Heavy rain disrupted normal life, caused waterlogging and battered the city of Pune on Thursday, media reports said.

Three people died due to electrocution while they were trying to wade through the waterlogged streets.

Schools and tourist spots have been shut by the administration.

Three teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have joined the rescue work in Pune.

Not just Pune, Mumbai and its adjoining areas like Thane have been flooded with rain.

Several lakes in Mumbai have started overflowing early on Thursday.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has held meeting with officials to take stock of the situation.

The Deputy CM wrote on X, "Have been taking stock of the heavy rainfall situation in various districts of Maharashtra, especially Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Kohlapur and Sangli since early morning from my office.

"The concerned officials from Disaster Management System and District Administration have been directed to take proactive measures to ensure that rescue and relief work is done without any delay. I request everyone to stay cautious in this weather, and be alert when travelling. Your safety is paramount to us."
