Mumbai/IBNS: Train services have been hit while schools and colleges shut as heavy rain battered Mumbai overnight, media reports said.

The downpour has caused severe waterlogging in the western city of India after about 300 mm of rainfall continued from 1 am to 7 am on Monday.

In several videos, people were seen struggling in the waterlogged areas and trying to wade through the waist-deep water.

All government and private schools, colleges have been shut.

The train services, which are the lifeline of the Mumbaikars, have been hit.

Several trains have been suspended or cancelled leading to the worry of about 30 lakh commuters who avail the service.

In several stations, people were seen waiting for trains on submerged tracks.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and the Konkan belt, NDTV reported.
