Heat wave toll rises to 1,800 in the country

New Delhi, May 29 (IBNS) The sweltering heat wave sweeping through a large swathe of the country has killed more than 1,800 people with Telengana and Andhra pradesh alone accounting for more than 1,700.

Reports quoting official figures said the toll in the heat wave across the country stood at 1826 on Thursday, with 414 lives being lost in Andhra Pradesh and Telengana since Wednesday.


In Andhra Pradesh, the toll rose to 1334 on Thursday, 314 more than the previous day, while the figure  figure in Telangana was  440-one hundred up just in a day.

Odisha reported 43 deaths, Gujarat 7 and  Delhi 2.

The Met department has said the heat wave will continue at least for the next two days.

Scorching heat also torments states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar.

The heat wave has not spared the places which remain much cooler throughout the year as Una in the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh has reported a temperature of 43.2 degree celsius. .
