Headache for BJP as LJP decides to contest alone in Jharkhand

Ranchi/IBNS: After losing its oldest ally Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is facing a jolt in Jharkhand as the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has decided to contest alone in 50 seats in the upcoming assembly elections in the eastern state.

LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan's son and party leader, Chirag Paswan, tweeted, "The state unit had to take the final decision on Jharkhand polls. The LJP has decided to contest alone in 50 seats. The first list of candidates will be released by evening."

Apart from the LJP, the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) is likely to ask for more seats to contest in the assembly elections, presenting a bigger hurdle for the BJP, NDTV reported.

The AJSU has already fielded its candidate in Chakradharpur assembly seat which will also be contested by BJP candidate Laxman Gilua.

In the 2014 state polls, the BJP had won 37 seats while the AJSU bagged five. The LJP could not open its account the last time.
