Harsha Murder case: Two more arrested

"Police have arrested two more persons. Altogether eight persons have been arrested so far. They have been interrogated by the police to get some more leads in the murder case," he told reporters.

On Sunday night in Shivamogga, Harsha, the Hindu activist, was hacked to death with knives and videos of the heinous crime were Whatsapped to the members of his family.

Following the incident, tension prevailed in the city with Hindu organisations assembled at Megan hospital where Harsha was rushed for treatment, but he was declared dead by the doctors.

In a prompt action, the police imposed prohibitory order, but the following day, during the funeral procession, some anti-social elements pelted stones.

This led to violence in which some vehicles were torched and properties damaged.

Jnanendra said the situation in Shivamogga is peaceful and police will be deployed for some more days.

He also thanked the people of Shivamogga for cooperating with the police despite prohibitory orders.

Section 144 will continue for some more days and the district administration is assessing the damages during arson in the city, Jnanendra said.

The police also are finding out whether the assailants are affiliated to any radical outfits. he said.

The minister also wrote a letter to Director General of Police Praveen Sood and asked him to submit a report on the previous cases filed against the accused and the lapses during the police investigation.

Jnanendra also said that he has ordered an inquiry against the policemen posted in Kote and Doddapete police stations in Shivamogga district in the backdrop of the incident.

"We want to find out how the police officers in these two police stations in the past five years monitored the eight arrested persons in the case, who have a huge criminal past. Action will be taken against such irresponsible police officers which resulted in the incident," he said.
