Hardcore UTLA militant killed in Manipur gunfight, two other arrested

Imphal, June 11 (IBNS): One hardcore militant of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) was killed during a gun fight with Assam Rifles troops in Manipur on Sunday night, officials said on Monday. 

According to the reports, based on intelligence input about presence of a militant group at Kuran Madrassa Ahmedabad area under Jiribam police station, the troops of 37th Assam Rifles launched operation at the area.

While the Assam Rifles troops reached, the militants hiding at the area started firing and heavy rounds of bullets were exchanged from both sides.

One militant was killed on spot and security personnel arrested two other militants.

A top official of Assam Rifles said that, two militants of the group  managed to escape from the area with the help of darkness.

Security personnel recovered one pistol and one M-16 rifle, several rounds of live ammunition, cash and other war likes stores from the encounter spot.

Following the encounter, top official of Manipur police and Assam Rifles rushed to the area and launched massive operation to nab the fled militants.
