Ahmedabad/IBNS: At least 40 people have been arrested in connection with violence that broke out on Sunday in Gujarat's Kutch district during a procession to collect funds for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, leaving allegedly one man dead and several others injured, including policemen, said media reports.

According to an NDTV report, violence erupted during a procession taken out by VHP. The members of the procession were allegedly shouting slogans against another community which infuriated them, leading to clashes with "swords and sticks" and arson, according to cases filed with the police in the incident, the report added.

Kutch (East) Superintendent of Police Mayur Patil said police had to hurl tear gas shells to control the violence.

The report said that the procession which was in the form of a "rath yatra" did not have permission, police said while adding that the body of a migrant worker from Jharkhand was recovered 200m from the clash site in Kidana village and investigations are oh to ascertain if he died in the clash.

Similar clashes have been reported at similar rallies from different parts of the country, including Madhya Pradesh's Indore, Ujjain and Mandsaur districts, the NDTV report added.
