Govt to take action against Delhi police on Liaqat issue

| | Jan 27, 2015, at 11:07 pm
New Delhi, Jan 27 (IBNS) : The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday said it would take action against Delhi police officers who had arrested Liaqat Shah and framed him as a Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist.

Reports said the Home Ministry took strong exception to the Delhi police filing the false case against Liaqat.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on January 24 had given a clean chit to him.

Forty-five-year-old Liaqat was arrested on March 20, 2013 while crossing the Indo-Nepal border in Gorakhpur with his family.

Liaqat had said that he had come to surrender under the Jammu and Kashmir government's rehabilitation policy.

The Delhi Police alleged that Liaqat was involved in the conspiracy to carry out terror attacks in the capital ahead of Holi.

The government later asked NIA to probe the case and the agency absolved liaqat of all charges.
