Govt should allow independent review of Chinese intrusion: Rahul Gandhi

| @indiablooms | Jul 11, 2020, at 04:37 am

New Delhi/IBNS: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the government should listen to defence veterans and allow an independent fact-finding mission to "identify incursion, intrusion and encroachment by China."

He said the government should inform the country about the steps taken to 'ensure no more Indian territory is taken by China.'

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi wrote: "GOI must listen to the veterans and:
1. Inform India of the steps taken to ensure no more Indian territory is taken by China.
2. Allow an independent fact finding mission to identify incursion, intrusion and encroachment by China."

He also tagged a news report by The Wire, headlined "India-China Standoff: 144 Armed Forces Veterans Appeal for Accountability, Reforms".

This comes on a day when India and China reiterated their decision to work on complete disengagement of their troops along the Line of Control (LAC) in the Ladakh region where a violent face-off had taken place in June last.

The two sides maintained that peace and tranquillity in the border areas were essential for the overall development of bilateral relations.

Asking the government to come clean on whether there have been Chinese incursions, Rahul has been attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accusing him of "surrendering" Indian land.

Earlier in an all-party meeting, PM Modi had assured that Chinese troops did not cross the border or capture any Indian territory.

A statement issued on Fiday after the 16th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation & Coordination (WMCC) on India-China Border Affairs said: "both sides will ensure complete disengagement of the troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and de-escalation from India-China border areas for full restoration of peace and tranquility in the border areas in accordance with bilateral agreements and protocols."

The two sides recalled the agreement reached between the two Foreign Ministers on June 17, 2020 as well as the agreement between two Special Representatives (SRs) during their telephonic conversation on 5 July 2020, the statement read.
