Govt issues notification over implementation of 'One Rank One Pension'

New Delhi, Nov 7 (IBNS): With few days left before the country celebrates Diwali festival, the government made a significant move on Saturday as it issued a notification in connection with the implementation of ‘One Rank One Pension’ in respect of Defence Forces personnel.

"The issue of One Rank One Pension was a long standing   demand. Defence Forces had been demanding it for almost four decades but the issue could not be resolved. However, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had made a commitment to implement it for the welfare of the ex-servicemen," read  government statement.

"Accordingly the Government had announced modalities for implementation of OROP on 05.09.2015.  The Government Order by Ministry of Defence, which could not be issued due to model code of conduct, has been issued today," it said.

The increased pension will to effect from July 1, 2014.

"The wait is over. #OROP notification issued," MoD Spokesperson Sitanshu Kar tweeted.

Ex-servicemen, who are fighting over the issue of OROP, have reportedly rejected the notification.

They have been protesting over the issue of OROP for the past few moths.
