Good that Ramdev made Covid-19 medicine but must get examined first: Ayush Minister Shripad Naik
New Delhi/IBNS: Following the controversy over Ramdev's claim to make a medicine to cure Covid-19, Ayush Minister Shripad Naik has praised the Yoga guru for making the cure but said the medicine must come to his ministry first for examination, media reports said.
Naik said as quoted by NDTV, "It is a good thing that Baba Ramdev has given a new medicine to the country but as per rules, it has to come to the Ayush Ministry first. They even said that they have sent a report. We'll look into it and permission will be given after seeing the report."
"Anyone can make medicines. Anyone who wants to make medicines has to go through the Ayush ministry task force. Everyone has to send details of the research to the Ayush ministry for confirmation.
"This is the rule and no one can advertise their products without it," the minister added.
The Ayush Ministry on Tuesday asked Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. to provide details of the Ayurvedic medicine 'Coronil', which it has developed for the treatment of Covid-19, and to stop publicising or advertising the drug until the claims are duly examined.
Ramdev on Tuesday launched 'Coronil' which he claimed will help in curing a patient of the infectious disease.
Taking cognizance of the news from media, the Ayush Ministry claimed that facts of the claim and details of the stated scientific study "are not known to the Ministry."
The Ministry said that it sought details of the composition of the drug from Patanjali Ayurved based in Haridwar and until the results of the claim are verified, the company has been refrained from advertising the medicine.
Patanjali has reportedly sent the documents related to the medicine to the ministry on Tuesday itself.
According to reports, the medicine was launched after a research conducted jointly by the Patanjali Research Institute, Haridwar and the National Institute of Medical Science, Jaipur.
In an interaction with India Today, Ramdev said his sample size was 100 people, out of which 95 had participated in the testing process.
