Prayagraj, Apr 29 (UNI) The three shooters involved in the on camera killing of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf were remanded to 14 days' judicial custody by a local court here on Saturday, a prosecution counsel said here.

District Government Counsel (Criminal) Gulab Chandra Agrahari said that the three shooters Lavlesh Tiwari, Arun Maurya and Mohit alias Shani Singh, who are currently lodged in Pratapgarh jail, were produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Dinesh Kumar Gautam through video-conferencing.

He said that after hearing the arguments the court remanded the three shooters to 14 days' judicial remand for questioning by the police regarding Atiq and Ashraf murder case. He said that the court has ordered to produce the accused on May 12.

It may be noted that Atiq and Ashraf were shot dead by shooters posing as mediapersons while being taken for the medical examination to Colvin hospital in police custody on April 15 night. The police nabbed the three shooters from the spot.

The incident took place after Atiq and Ashraf were remanded to police custody in connection with murder of advocate Umesh Pal, the main witness in Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal murder case, and his two gunmen.

Umesh Pal and his two gunners were shot dead on February 24. Umesh Pal's wife Jaya Pal had lodged a case against Atiq, his wife Shaista Parveen, brother Ashraf, two sons and nine others. Atiq's son Asad along with another shooter Ghulam were killed in an encounter with the Special Task Force in Jhansi.
