Fourth-year B.Tech student in IIT-Madras commits suicide

Chennai, UNI/IBNS: In a tragic incident, a fourth-year B.tech student committed suicide in his hostel room in IIT-Madras last evening.

Police sources said the Aerospace Engineering student, Subhranshu Shekar Dehury, a native of Odisha, took the extreme steps as he had a backlog of four arrear papers and out of frustration.

In a statement, IIT-M said, "It is with deep shock and anguish that IIT Madras conveys the tragic and untimely passing away of a fourth-year undergraduate student of Aerospace Engineering department".

The parents of the student have been informed and they are on their way to Chennai. "We request everyone to respect the privacy of the family at this unfortunate moment", it said.

The Institute expresses its heartfelt condolences and shares the grief of the friends and family of the student.

"May the departed soul rest in peace", the statement said.
