Fatehgarh police seize 25 kg gold worth Rs 8.50 cr

Fatehgarh Sahib, Mar 31 (UNI) Fatehgarh police on Sunday claimed to have seized 25 kg gold worth Rs 8.50 crore. 

The gold was seized Saturday night by Flying Squad teams and local police teams during checking near Sirhind police station on GT Road, from a private van coming from Delhi.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, District Electoral Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Prashant Kumar Goyal and District Police Chief Amneet Kundal said in view of the seizure various teams have been set up considering the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In this regard, the Income Tax Department too has been informed and further action is being taken.

Police teams and some other officials during checking seized 25 kg of gold worth Rs 08.50 crore from a van coming from Rajpura side. Four people including two security guards, a driver and a cashier were travelling in the van. Cashier identified himself as Jay Prakash, is working with a Delhi based transport company.

As per the bill, they were carrying Gold fom Haridwar (Uttarakhand) to deliver it to Amritsar but according to the cashier Jai Prakash's statement, this delivery was to be made at a shop of a Ludhiana based jeweller. The vehicle number on the bill was different from the vehicle it was being transported in. Further action is being taken after informing the income tax department about this matter , according to DC and SSP.

District election officer Prashant Kumar Goyal said since the election code of conduct came into effect, more than 10,000 liters of alcohol, 448 kg poppy husk, 06.5 kg opium, 727 grams heroin, more than 7000 pills of narcotics, more than 2500 vaccinations and Rs 26 lakhs have been recovered.

"The value of this entire seizure is more than Rs.19 crore 16 lakhs. He appealed to the public that whenever any information about any illegal work is received, then its information should be given to the district administration immediately. In this regard, the Wise App and the 1950 Help Line Number can also be used, " Mr Goyal added.
