Entire humanity must unite against terrorism: PM Modi at BRICS Meet

| | Nov 15, 2015, at 10:01 pm
Antalya, Nov 15 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, while attending the BRICS Meet, which is being held on the sidelines of G20 Summit in Antalya in Turkey, condemned terrorist attacks in Paris and urged the entire humanity to stand as one against terrorism.
Making his remarks at the BRICS meeting, Modi said, "We strongly condemn the Paris attack. Attacks in Ankara and Beirut are also a reminder of terrorism. The need for a global effort against it has never been more urgent. Entire humanity must stand as one against terrorism."

With India taking over Chairmanship of BRICS from Russia in February 2016, PM Modi said, "This (acting against terrorism) must also be a priority of the BRICS nations."

Modi said, "We have provided proof of the relevance & value of BRICS through our actions, when earlier its logic was being questioned."

He said, "India is honoured to assume Chair of BRICS in 2016, the theme for which will be 'Building Responsive, Inclusive & Collective Solutions'."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Saturday to attend the G20 Summit.

Hours before the G20 meet started, a jihadist suspected to belong to the Islamic State blew himself up in southern Turkey, which is 800 km from Antalaya, injuring four officers.

This comes after  Friday's orchestrated attacks by suicide bombers and gunmen in Paris, which left at least 129 people killed.

The terror attacks, worst in France's history since the second world war, were carried out in six locations, including  a concert hall, restaurants and the national sports stadium on Friday night.

French President Francois Hollande blamed the Islamic extremist group and called the assault an "act of war".

The Islamic State released an undated video on Saturday threatening to attack France if bombings of its fighters continue. Earlier on Saturday, Hollande said the attacks were committed by Islamic State, planned and organised from abroad with help from inside France.

At least eight militants, all wearing suicide vests, brought unprecedented violence. Four of them, armed with AK47s and shouting "Allahu Akbar," stormed into a rock concert at the Bataclan concert hall in eastern Paris, gunning down at least 89 people.
