Dy CM Panneerselvam gets Planning, Legislative Assembly, Elections & Passports as additional portfolios

Chennai, Aug 22 (IBNS): Tamil Nadu's Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has been given Planning, Legislative Assembly, Elections & Passports portfolios, in addition to those allotted to him on Monday, including Finance, according to media reports on Tuesday.

The portfolios allocated to PS on Tuesday were held by Jayakumar, who is now Minister for Fisheries, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, media reported.

On Monday, besides Finance, OPS was allocated Housing, Rural Housing, Housing Development, Slum Clearance Board and Accommodation Control, Town Planning, Urban Development and Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority portfolios.

With the merger of the rival factions within the AIADMK, Panneerselvam, who has served as the chief minister thrice, became the deputy to Chief Minister E Palaniswami.

In a separate development, 19 pro-Sasikala legislators of Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK met the state's Governor on Tuesday morning, protesting the merger of  two factions led by Chief Minister E Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam, which they called "illegal," reports said.

After the merger, AIADMK has 134 legislators in the 234-member TN assembly.

With only 17 more legislators  than the 117 needed for a majority, the revolt by these 19 could spell a trouble for  Palaniswami if he has to face a no-confidence motion.
