Drought-hit farmers must get relief irrespective of political differences: Sharad Pawar
Beed (Maharashtra), May 13 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar on Monday toured the villages here, which are currently reeling under the calamitous effects of drought.
Pawar visited the villages in the talukas of Ashti and Patoda where he conversed with the ryots facing agrarian crisis owing to the natural calamity.
He stated that the present catastrophe is worse as compared to 1972 drought,and appealed the state government to offer administrative relief to the farmers irrespective of political differences.
The former Union Agriculture Minister interacted with the farmers in Khadkat village of the Ashti taluka.
During the talks, Pawar empathised with the farmers and said, "till the monsoon season arrives they have to fight the grim situation bravely."
After listening to the farmers, he said,"I will put all the problems which farmers are facing before the state government which must come forward for the help without any polictal differences."
Later, he visited the fodder camps setup in Patoda taluka where he reportedly received complaint that the government grants have not arrived since the camp started on March 27. Other bemoanings of the farmers included slashed milk prices, yet-to-be received crop insurances, and much-needed compensation for damaged horticulture gardens.
