'Don't vote for BJP': Farmers' leader Rakesh Tikait tells people in his Nandigram Mahapanchayat
Nandigram/IBNS: Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait, who is one of the prominent faces of the farmers' protest against the three agriculture laws, is in West Bengal to hold Mahapanchayats (public meetings) to urge people to vote against the BJP in the upcoming assembly polls.
He addressed the voters in Bengal's Nadigram, which is set to witness a high voltage contest between Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee and her former aide and now BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.
Tikait arrived in Kolkata today and was received by Trinamool MP Dola Sen, who is also overseeing the TMC's poll campaign in Nandigram.
"Don't cast your votes in favour of BJP," he urged the people in the assembly constituency where Mamata Banerjee was hurt while campaigning, triggering an intense quarrel between TMC and BJP supporters.
He asked the people to question the BJP on Minimum Support Price (MSP) when the party candidates come seeking votes for the polls.
He alleged that the Centre led by BJP has looted the country and people should stop the saffron party from coming to power.
Tikait, however, said he was not in the poll bound state to seek votes for any party.
He said the alleged attack on Mamata Banerjee was unfortunate and he would travel across Bengal urging people to vote against BJP.
While the TMC has accused the BJP and the Election Commission of having a role in the matter, BJP has termed the entire episeode a drama to gain the sympathy of voters.
