Chandigarh/IBNS: Dera Sacha Sauda chief and self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is convicted and jailed in rape cases, has been granted a 30-day parole by the Haryana government, media reports said.

Ram Rahim was released from the Sunaria jail in Rohtak on Tuesday morning.

Ram Rahim, who is convicted in a rape case, is already serving a 20-year jail sentence.

Ram Rahim Singh was convicted by a special CBI court in Haryana's Panchkula in August 2017 for raping two women.

Rahim is known to have a mass following in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, as well as Haryana.

His parole coincides with the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi.

The national capital will head to vote on February 5.

Ram Rahim was granted parole controversially ahead of the Haryana assembly elections last year.
