Demonetisation: Left parties to go on 12-hour general strike in Bengal on Nov 28
During a press conference here in Kolkata on Friday, Left Front chairman Biman Basu said, "To protest against the BJP-led central government's demonetisation, which led to general people's harassment, we are calling for a 12-hour general strike on Monday, November 28."
"All emergency services, banks, ATMs, post offices and weddings will be exempted from the bandh," Basu added.
Meanwhile, state's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) opposed the strike and as usual West Bengal government has issued an compulsory attendance order for its employees.
"We are demonstrating on the same issue and will hold a protest march on Monday (Nov 28) in Kolkata to protest against the demonetisation, where our party supremo Mamata Banerjee will be present," TMC leader and cabinet minister Firhad Hakim told IBNS.
"But we will never support any strike in Bengal as it kills work environment," Hakim said.
However, Left parties, Congress, AAP and several other parties will observe Aakrosh Day against demonetisation and hold separate protest marches in the city.
The Centre on Nov 8 announced its decision of banning Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes.
