Delhi violence: Iran's leader Ayatollah Khamenei warns India of 'isolation' from Islamic world

Tehran/IBNS: Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Thursday warned that India will be 'isolated' from the Islamic world over the recent violence in Delhi.

The Iranian leader also asked the Indian government to 'confront extremist Hindus'.

He tweeted: "The hearts of Muslims all over the world are grieving over the massacre of Muslims in India. The govt of India should confront extremist Hindus & their parties & stop the massacre of Muslims in order to prevent India’s isolation from the world of Islam. #IndianMuslimslnDanger."

He has posted the tweet just days after India had expressed displeasure over the comments by Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on the violence in Delhi.

Zarif had tweeted: "Iran condemns the wave of organized violence against Indian Muslims. For centuries, Iran has been a friend of India. We urge Indian authorities to ensure the wellbeing of ALL Indians & not let senseless thuggery prevail. Path forward lies in peaceful dialogue and rule of law."

The Indian government on Tuesday summoned Iranian ambassador Ali Chegeni to lodge a protest against the comment made by Iran Foreign Minister Javad Zarif over the violence in the Indian capital city.

Delhi witnessed violence over the new citizenship law passed by the Indian government last year.

The incidents left over 40 people dead.
