New Delhi/Mathura, Dec 7 (IBNS) The police on Sunday arrested a cab driver, who is accused of raping a woman in Delhi, from Mathura city in Uttar Pradesh, reports said.

The Delhi Police arrested 32-year-old Shiv Kumar Yadav who was working with Uber.

He will be brought to Delhi soon, reports said.

The woman has said in her statement to the police that she hired the cab and fell asleep in the vehicle.

The driver allegedly took her to a desolate location and raped her.

He allegedly threatened the woman against reporting the incident.

An FIR was registered at the Sarai Rohilla police station in North Delhi.

To add on the shock, Uber, an international group which provides cab service all around the world, reportedly had no records of pick-up and drop.

The company has in a statement said: "We are deeply disturbed by the reported incident. Our thoughts are with the victim. We are actively and fully cooperating with authorities."

It said that "it is also our policy to immediately suspend a driver’s account following allegations of a serious incident, which we have done."

"Safety is Uber’s highest priority and in India, we work with licensed driver-partners to provide a safe transportation option, with layers of safeguards such as driver and vehicle information, and ETA-sharing to ensure there is accountability and traceability of all trips that occur on the Uber platform," said the company.

According to reports, the Delhi Police earlier sent a notice to Uber and directed them to join investigation into the matter.
