Delhi likely to experience heatwave from Monday: IMD

New Delhi/UNI: After a brief respite from the scorching heat, the national capital may experience heatwave from Monday (May 9) onwards, as the maximum temperature is likely to touch 43 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department said on Saturday.

The weather agency predicted that the heatwave is likely to return as mercury is likely to touch 44 degrees on Wednesday and Friday (May 11 to May 13).

"Fresh spell of heatwave conditions likely to commence over Northwest India from 7th May and over central India from 8th May 2022: north Madhya Maharashtra on 5th May, Rajasthan during 7th-9th May" IMD tweeted.

"The Maximum temperature on Saturday is likely to hit 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was recorded at 23.8 degrees Celsius, one notch below the normal," said the weather agency.

The relative humidity at 8:30 AM was recorded at 66 percent.

On Friday, the isolated pockets of Delhi received light rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, with the maximum temperature in the city recorded at 38.4 degrees Celsius.

According to the Safdarjung weather station, Lodhi Road received 001.0 mm of rainfall till 1730 hrs, while Pitampura received 000.5 mm.
