New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday dismissed a criminal defamation complaint filed by AAP leader Satyendra Jain against BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, media reports said.

Additional chief judicial magistrate Neha Mittal refused to take cognisance of the complaint and dismissed the case, reported The New India Express.

Criminal defamation carries a maximum punishment of two years in jail.

"Cognisance declined. Dismissed," the judge stated, according to the report.

Jain had accused Swaraj of making defamatory statements against him during a televised interview on October 5, 2023, which he claimed was watched by millions.

According to his complaint, Swaraj falsely alleged that authorities recovered Rs 3 crore in cash, 1.8 kg of gold, and 133 gold coins from his residence.

The AAP leader contended that the remarks were intended to malign his reputation and secure political advantage.

He also claimed that Swaraj further defamed him by calling him "corrupt" and a "fraud."
