New Delhi/Dehradun, Nov 11 (IBNS): In a shocking incident, a Delhi-based bengali couple were robbed and killed by the cab-driver and his accomplices in Dehradun, where the couple went to spent holidays, media reported.

According to reports, Moumita Das (27)and his friend Avijit Paul (24) arrived in Dehradun on October 21 for the Diwali weekend and went to Chakrata, which is 135km away from Dehradun for holidaying, but mysteriously went missing on October 24.

After a few days, when they didn't return, Moumita's father Mrinal Krishna Das along with some neighbours registered a case of missing persons at Saket Police station in the capital on Oct 29.

Later, Moumita's brother Mriganka Das and uncle Gopal Das went to Chakrata and adjoining Vikas Nagar area and told the police there about the missing couple.

Following this, the Delhi Police came once to investigate the matter.

Police came to know that the couple hired a cab with driver Raju Das for sight-scene to and fro from Chakrata.

But there was no trace of Raju either.

At the same time police started tracing the numbers of both Moumita amd Avijit.

Luckily, they got a signal from Avijit's phone.

They traced it and got hold of a cab driver, Raju who was apprehended following  a joint operation conducted by the Uttarakhand and Delhi police.

After interrogating Raju, the entire episode of brutality came to light.

Reports said, Raju confessed that he along with three others murdered the couple.

According to Raju, the couple asked him to drive them to Tiger Fall. The two were last spotted at a momo shop in the area.

The murder took place in the evening near a place called Lakhamandal when the couple was returning to Chakrata.

How he murdered them? Raju confessed, during the trip he boarded three of his friends in the car telling that they will get off mid-way.

After reaching Lakhamandal, Raju and his friends Guddu, Kundan Das and Babloo first strangulated Paul, then raped the girl and killed her too.

They also robbed them before disposing of their bodies at two different places.

On basis of Raju's statement, all three others were nabbed by the police on Tuesday morning from their village Tungroli in Chakrata.

The accused have confessed that they were drunk at the time of the incident and raped the girl, before throwing her in the River Yamuna under Lakhamandal bridge in Purola block of Uttarakhasi, while they threw Avijit off the steep cliff a few kilometres away.

Paul's body was recovered from Purola in Uttarkashi district and identified. The body of the girl is yet to be traced. "We are trying to find the woman's body. This will also help in establishing that she was raped," said Uttarakhashi SP Jagatram Joshi. A search has been launched to scour the girl's body from the Yamuna.

It has been learnt that Moumita hails from Kalyani in West Bengal while Avijit came from Dum Dum near Kolkata.

The couple use to live in a rented house in South Delhi’s Lado Sarai area. Moumita was a teacher at Gurgaon's Pathways International School whereas Avijit was a painter.
