Days ahead of Delhi polls, Madhya Pradesh 'strengthens' anti-CAA movement
New Delhi/Bhopal/UNI: Notwithstanding the union government which told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that it was in talks with state governments having concerns with regard to implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), an anti CAA resolution was passed by the Kamal Nath-led cabinet in Madhya Pradesh.
With this resolution Madhya Pradesh became the sixth state and fourth Congress filled government to do so.
According to some political analysts, the resolution will impact the 'prospect' of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party three days ahead of the Delhi Assembly Elections.
Madhya Pradesh Law Minister PC Sharma had informed that the resolution would now be forwarded to the Narendra Modi-led dispensation at the centre.
Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai had told the Rajya Sabha on Feb 5 that the central government had received anti-CAA resolutions adopted by legislative assemblies of certain states like Kerala and Rajasthan and it was in discussion with such state governments.
"The government is in discussion with the states having concerns in regard to the implementation of CAA and to the preparation of the National Population Register (NPR)," Rai said but did not give any details as to the level and nature of discussion.
Informatively, earlier Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Bengal and Chhattisgarh have passed similar resolutions.
