Kannur, May 2 (UNI): Pariyaram police on Thursday registered a criminal case against three CPI(M) women cadre, including a local body member, who have been found to have casted bogus votes in a booth at Pilathara here in the April 23 Lok Sabha Election.

The case was registered on the direction of Kannur district collector and returning officer Mir Muhammed Ali.

Police said they registered case under sections 171-C, D and F of the Indian Penal Code (for impersonation and interference in the election process) against three CPI(M) cadres, Cheruthazham panchayat member M.V. Saleena, former member of the panchayat K.P. Summaya and AIDWA local functionary Padmini.

K.P Summaya was also the second booth agent of LDF in Pilathara UP School. Police also said they will also investigate the role of another LDF booth agent M.Rajesh for allegedly assisting bogus voting.

Police said, Saleena and Summaya cast bogus vote in booth number 19 at Pilathara UP School besides casting their own votes in their respective polling booths, while Padmini cast two votes in the same booth within a gap of around 30 minutes.

CEO Teeka Ram Meena on Monday confirmed bogus voting of the three women after vetting the video footage and the preliminary report submitted by the DC. Later, the CEO directed the district collector to take further action.

As the row over bogus voting continues, the Kasargod district collector sent notice to two IUML workers to appear before his office on Thursday for collection of evidence over the alleged bogus voting in booth number 69 and 70 at Pamburthy High School in Kannur district.
