Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Monday said that the state was on high alert and security has been beefed up along the border with Punjab in view of the crackdown against radical preacher Amritpal Singh, media reports said.

Strict vigil is being maintained along the border with Punjab, he told media persons, NDTV reported

The Punjab Police on Saturday launched a major crackdown against Amritpal and members of his outfit 'Waris Punjab De'.

Meanwhile, The Tribune reported additional police personnel have been deployed in the bordering areas of Parwanoo, which is the gateway to Himachal Pradesh.

The vehicles entering Himachal Pradesh are being checked, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Virender Sharma, said the report.

The report said citing police officials that the areas such as Dhabota, Dheerowal, Naya Gram, and Bagheri in the Nalagarh industrial belt, with common borders with Punjab, were on alert.

The police are ensuring that no suspicious persons in possession of weapons enter the area, according to The Tribune report.

According to the report, the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh (BBN) industrial belt has been used as safe haven by anti-social elements in the past.

A high alert had also been sounded in bordering areas of Behral and Govindghat in Paonta Sahib of Sirmaur district, the report said DSP Ramakant Thakur.
