COVID-19: West Bengal reports highest single-day spike, total cases cross 4000-mark
Kolkata/IBNS: With 427 new patients of novel coronavirus reported in past 24 hours, West Bengal on Friday saw the highest-ever single-day spike in infections while the total number of confirmed cases in the state has jumped to 7303, including 4025 active cases.
Issuing a bulletin, state health and family welfare department reported that the death count had reached 294 with 11 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours while the number of deaths due to comorbidity stood at 72.
According to the bulletin, of the 427 fresh cases, 272 (63.7 per cent) were reported from just four neighbouring districts— Kolkata (101), Howrah (62), North 24 Parganas (65) and Hooghly (44).
The health bulletin stated that with 144 COVID-19 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours, 2912 persons have been cured of novel coronavirus infections so far, taking the recovery rate in the state to 39.87 per cent.
The bulletin stated that West Bengal had tested 2,51,517 samples till date with 9686 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.
Presently, 23077 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 1,51,848 people are under home surveillance in the state, reports said.
