Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram

Gandhi was admitted at 10:22 pm on Tuesday, the hospital stated, according to The Times of India.

Doctors are reportedly examining possible infections in the stomach and urinary tract.

The former Congress president's son and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has reportedly arrived at the hospital.

Earlier hospitalisation in March

Sonia Gandhi was earlier admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in March after complaining of fever.

The 79-year-old had also undergone treatment for a systemic infection at the time.

Sonia Gandhi is an Indian politician and one of the most influential leaders of the Indian National Congress.

Born in Italy on December 9, 1946, as Antonia Edvige Albina Maino, she married former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1968 and later became an Indian citizen.
