Congress elect Sonia Gandhi as chairperson

| | May 25, 2014, at 02:34 am
New Delhi, May 24 (IBNS) Congress MPs on Saturday met here and elected Sonia Gandhi as the party's chairperson for the Congress Parliamentary Party.

This was the first parliamentary party meeting of the Congress after the Lok Sabha poll debacle.

"Smt.Sonia Gandhi elected Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party," the Indian National Congress (INC) tweeted.

Speaking at the meeting, Sonia Gandhi said the party has earlier also 'come back' after facing defeats in polls.

"Congress has lost this time but this is not the first time, we have earlier also come back after losses," INC tweeted quoting Gandhi.

Pertinently, Gandhi won from Raebareli Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress performed poorly in the recently held the Lok Sabha polls as the party, which ruled the nation for the past 10 years, could win only   44 seats in the Lok Sabha polls.
